How Much is Invisalign? – Payment Plans and Variables

Written by Dr Reuben Sim

We all deserve a smile we can be proud of. A truly spectacular smile is one that you feel confident in, which is something modern dentistry can help you achieve.

Invisalign is one of the most transformative dental treatments you can receive; not only does Invisalign straighten your teeth and address any functionality issues, but it also helps to sculpt your smile to suit your facial contours and structure.

If your teeth are misaligned and you’re considering correcting them, you’ll be wondering how much is Invisalign?

This is your guide to Invisalign costs, including payment plan information and variables.

How much is Invisalign?

So, how much does Invisalign cost?

This will ultimately depend on the unique concerns and smile desires of the patient. A more complex Invisalign case, such as those with severe malocclusion, may result in a higher treatment cost. Invisalign treatment costs can range from $4200 to $9800.

At Dental Boutique, we believe in providing realistic payment plans to ensure you can transform your smile as comfortably as possible.

We offer payment plans from $53 to $94 per week. These payment plans can be tailored to you, and we can arrange early release superannuation if appropriate.

What is Invisalign?

Traditionally, metal wires and brackets were the only tools available to straighten teeth.

While they are effective, many braces-wearers have noted that they can be uncomfortable and painful, and the frequent adjustments can leave a dent in the wallet. Some patients also struggle with the aesthetic of metal braces.

Invisalign pioneered the clear aligner movement and revolutionised the way dentists approach teeth straightening.

Invisalign is a modern orthodontic treatment in the form of clear, virtually invisible plastic aligners that are customised to each patient.

Your aligners, made from 3D scans of your teeth, gently guide your teeth into place. Unlike braces, aligners are removable, which makes the teeth straightening process a more comfortable one.

Invisalign retainers have a very high success rate and have transformed thousands of smiles.

Invisalign Vs Braces Cost in Australia

While you’re exploring your options, it can be helpful to look at how different treatments stack up against one another, cost-wise.

As with Invisalign, the cost of your braces will depend on your individual requirements, as well as how long your braces will be worn.

Generally, braces cost anywhere between $6,000 and $15,000 in total.

According to Orthodontics Australia, the estimated costs for braces worn over a 15 to 18-month period are as follows.

  • Metal braces: $6,000 to $9,000
  • Ceramic braces: $6,500 to $9,500
  • Lingual braces: $9,500 to $15,000

Comparatively, Invisalign costs approximately between $4200 – $9,000.

To determine the exact cost estimates for both options in your individual case, you can book a consultation with us.

We can discuss your options with you and determine the best course of action based on your treatment requirements and budget.

Invisalign and Private Health Insurance

Orthodontics are not covered under Medicare but may be covered under your private health insurance fund. If you have extras cover, depending on your level of cover, you may be able to claim a portion of your Invisalign cost from your private health fund.

Orthodontics isn’t usually covered by basics extras cover, and you will likely require a higher level of cover to receive rebates.

Provided your private health insurance policy covers orthodontics, you will be covered for Invisalign. Your Invisalign treatment will typically be covered to a similar extent to coverage for braces.

Any claims you make for your Invisalign treatment will be deducted from your orthodontic limit.

Rebates can range from a few hundred dollars to more than $2500. For a mid-range or comprehensive extra policy, you can expect to receive approximately $600 to $800 back towards your Invisalign costs per year.

If you don’t have orthodontics coverage on your extras plan, or if you don’t currently have a private health plan, you’ll need to wait 12 months before you can claim your Invisalign treatment.

If you are already on a plan, you can shop around to decide which fund will have the best cover for you. Once you switch, you won’t need to wait 12 months to receive your cover.

However, if you switch to a plan with a higher orthodontics limit, you will need to wait 12 months before claiming that additional benefit.

For example, if your current orthodontics limit is $1,500 and you switch to a plan with a $2,000 limit, you will need to wait 12 months before claiming the additional $500.
